Stanisław Ignacy Witkiewicz

Stanisław Ignacy Witkiewicz, also known as Witkacy, was a Polish writer, painter, photographer, philosopher, and playwright. Regarded as one of the most original artists of the 20th century, he is best known for developing the theory of Pure Form in theatre and visual arts. He created portraits, experimented with photography, and wrote avant-garde plays and novels. The son of painter and art theorist Stanisław Witkiewicz, his work—often ahead of its time—combined grotesque elements, philosophy, and absurdity. He died tragically in 1939.
