Tomasz Ciecierski was born in 1945 in Kraków and passed away in 2024 in Warsaw. In 1971, he graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw with a degree from the Faculty of Painting. During the 1970s and 1980s, he was a lecturer at the same institution. In 1999, he was awarded the Jan Cybis Prize for his artistic achievements.
His solo exhibitions have been held in Poland’s most prestigious museums and galleries, such as the Museum of Art in Łódź (1990); Zachęta – National Gallery of Art in Warsaw (2018, 2006, 1996, 1994); Bunkier Sztuki in Kraków (2006, 2003); the National Museum in Poznań (2007); and Galeria Arsenał in Białystok (1993, 1998). His work has also been exhibited internationally, including at Galerie Wetering in Amsterdam (1984, 1985, 1987, 1988, 1992, 1994, 1997, 2000, 2002); Musée d’Art Contemporain in Nîmes (1991); and other venues.
Tomasz Ciecierski participated in major international exhibitions such as the 5th Sydney Biennale (1984); the 19th and 22nd São Paulo Biennale (1987, 1994); the Polish Realities exhibition at Third Eye Centre in Glasgow (1988); and Documenta IX in Kassel (1992).
His works are part of both private and institutional collections, including those of Zachęta – National Gallery of Art in Warsaw; the National Museum in Warsaw; the Museum of Art in Łódź; the National Museum in Wrocław; the National Museum in Poznań; the National Museum in Gdańsk; the Upper Silesian Museum in Bytom; and the European Parliament.
