Jadwiga Sawicka was born in 1959. She studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow. She creates paintings, photographs, objects and text installations, also in the public space. She is also a curator. She works at the Faculty of Art of the University of Rzeszów. Jan Cybis Award in 2013 and Katarzyna Kobro Award in 2017. Since the end of the 1990s, her paintings have been characterized by a particular and subversive use of language, featuring single words or familiar linguistic clichés. Jadwiga Sawicka’s text paintings have come to be among the most recognizable signs in modern Polish art.
