Katarzyna Rotkiewicz–Szumska

Born in 1958 in Szczecin. Visual artist. She works in painting, set design, photography, and video. A graduate of the Faculty of Painting and Graphics at the former State Higher School of Fine Arts in Gdańsk. She received her diploma in 1983. Laureate of the Jerzy Boniecki Award for the Promotion of Polish Culture and a two-time recipient of scholarships from the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage. Since 1992, she has co-created Teatr Cinema, an avant-garde formation operating at the intersection of visual arts and physical theatre. She lives and works in Michałowice, Karkonosze, in a house that also serves as the theatre’s headquarters and a site for artistic projects and residencies.
