Julia Klewaniec

Julia Klewaniec is an artist, photographer, cultural menager, and art director. She graduated in Photography from the Łódź Film School. Together with a group of artists, she runs the Picture Doc Foundation. She collaborates with Warsaw’s multicultural artistic community.
Her debut project, Silent Racism, was presented at international exhibitions in cities including Łódź, Copenhagen, and Turin. She was selected by Fotofestiwal Łódź for FUTURES Talents. She participated in the group exhibition On the Verge, accompanied by a publication released by VOID. She was the winner of the Pix.House “Talent of the Year 2022” competition, which resulted in the publication Silent Racism, designed by Krzysiek Orłowski.
With her work Recent, she took part in the group exhibition Villa Polonez at the Polish Institute in Paris, presented as part of the main programmes of Paris Photo and Photo Days in 2024.
Together with Maciek Bernaś and Miłosz Kowalewski, she creates photography screenings for festivals and institutions such as Jeu de Paume, Fotofestiwal Łódź, the Polish Institute in Paris, the Museum of Warsaw, the Martin Parr Foundation, and FOTODOK. In 2026, she was an artist-in-residence at the Casa Planas Foundation in Palma de Mallorca, where she developed part of the project I’m So Blue within the Adam Mickiewicz Institute’s ReSide programme.
Her artistic practice focuses on examining contemporary society, relationships, culture, language, and the environment, with particular attention to everyday mechanisms and their causes and consequences. Photography is her primary medium, although she also works with objects, video, and drawing.
