Michał Matejko
Michał Matejko (born 1988, Poland) is a Polish intermedia artist and researcher working at the intersection of art, technology, and science. He is known for creating immersive light installations and objects that utilize advanced imaging and sound-processing technologies. His works explore perception, optical illusions, and the relationship between space and visual experience.
In 2016, he graduated from the Cinematography Department at the Leon Schiller National Film School in Łódź. His artistic practice combines technical expertise with aesthetic sensitivity, resulting in works that bridge visual art, the physics of light, and the philosophy of perception.
He has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions in Poland and abroad — including at Death of Man Gallery in Warsaw, Lescer Art Center in Zalesie Górne, Kirkland Gallery (Harvard GSD) and MIT Media Lab in Cambridge (USA), as well as Top Level Gallery in Poznań. His installations — such as In the Blink of an Eye, OiMACCTA, Questionable Grounds, and Scrub, Groves, Thickets and Shrubs — are often interactive, using light, motion, sound, and time as key narrative components.
Matejko’s work frequently addresses cognitive uncertainty, perceptual disruption, and the ways in which technology records and transforms sensory input. His projects explore phenomena at the boundary of optics and visual biology, employing custom-built lighting systems, photogrammetry, and real-time video processing.
He also takes part in research-based art projects, collaborating with academic institutions and new media art centers. In 2025, solo exhibitions of his work are scheduled at 302 Gallery of the Academy of Fine Arts in Katowice and again at Lescer Art Center.
Matejko lives and works in Warsaw.
