Agata Słowak, Crushes, 2022, oil on canvas, 50 x 40 cm, photo: Marek Gardulski

Agata Słowak was born in 1994. She is a graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, where in 2019 she defended her diploma titled I Am Beautiful, I Am a Great Artist!. Her graduation project received the top prize in the academy’s annual best diploma competition, Coming Out (now renamed OutComing). As part of her diploma work, Słowak created a series of paintings along with a complementary installation titled Feminist – the Contemporary Witch, the centerpiece of which was a group of dolls sewn from fabric using a sewing machine.

She is considered one of the most acclaimed Polish painters of the young generation. Her work consistently addresses feminist themes, filled with enigmatic symbolism and references to both tradition and contemporary social issues, particularly those concerning women.

The artist lives and works in Warsaw.
