Dominika Kowynia (b. 1978) graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Katowice, obtaining her diploma in painting in 2003 before receiving a doctoral degree in 2010.
„My art practice is rooted in a sense of lack. I was not filled with data about the world as a child, there were no adults around me interested in it, so I created a space for myself where I endured my own collected observations and information, trying to understand and adapt it. Adaptation had two thresholds, which I climbed with effort: the lonely discovery of the rules of life in early childhood in exile in Libya and the re-learning when I was thrown into Polish foreignness in early adolescence without any guidance”.
