Daniel Rycharski

Daniel Rycharski

Born in 1986 in Sierpc, Poland. He describes himself as a conceptual and avant-garde artist, and works in various media, with installations at the forefront of his artistic practice. In 2005–2009, Rycharskistudied graphic design at the Faculty of Art of the Pedagogical University of Kraków. He then pursued a PhD at the Kraków Academy of Fine Arts. He works with the themes of provinciality, religiosity, Christianity, and LGBTQ+ identity, seeking tensions andnew relations between them. In that, Rycharski’s art also manifests his personal quest of a realm in which non-heteronormativity and the Catholic faith can coexist. He works closely both with LGBTQ+ activists and religious and agricultural societies to represent their issues and sensibilities, mediating between the consciousness of Polish cities and that of villages. Rycharski often directly engages his local community both in the reception and production of his art, as one of his main concerns is propagating art among rural communities. Besides, the artist lectures at the Academy of Fine Arts in Szczecin. He lives and works in Kurówko and in Szczecin. In 2021, the film Fears, based on Rycharski’s life, directed by Łukasz Ronduda and Łukasz Gutt, premiered.
