The exhibition engages in an intercultural dialogue, focusing on an ethical and equitable representation of inspirations and cultural flows between Poland and West Africa. Its multi-layered narrative is rooted in the personal experiences of the participating artists. The involvement of artists from Ghana was made possible with the support of the OmenaArt Foundation.
Textile becomes a common thread in the practices of female artists from different cultural contexts. Rita Mawuena Benissan and Pamela Bożek carry out their projects in collaboration with communities outside the sphere of contemporary art, emphasizing social engagement through fabric-based practices.
Patrick Tagoe-Turkson and Józef Gałązka create upcycled art, using waste materials to comment on climate crisis and overproduction. For the Ghanaian artist, this approach also reflects on environmental degradation in a region heavily affected by global imbalance.
An innovative interpretation of the textile medium—especially in its unconventional, plastic-based materiality—emerges in the work of Kwaku Yaro, who explores the interplay between tradition and contemporary form.
The paintings of Kinga Nowak, inspired by West African traditions and ongoing international discussions on the restitution of cultural heritage looted during colonialism, reference the historical backdrop of today’s cultural exchanges.
