Jan Baszak

Born in 1994 in Szczecin) lives and works between Szczecin, Warsaw, and Berlin. He is a visual artist working across sculpture, installation, scenography, textile art, and artistic research.
His practice is situated at the intersection of intimacy and melancholy. In his works, he employs posthuman and animal-derived materials alongside reclaimed textiles, drawing on queer theory, posthumanism, post-nature, and the agency of matter.
In his artistic practice, he examines the complex relationships between humans and non-human beings, exploring the mysticism of interspecies exchanges of gaze. He develops models of community based on the principles of Halloween egalitarianism, conceived as spaces for non-binary and non-linear ways of thinking. He creates multilayered sculptural installations that revolve around fantasy, the affirmation of strangeness, and the abject.
