Polish painter, draftsman, graphic artist, poster designer, and filmmaker specializing in art documentaries. He studied at the Faculty of Painting and Graphic Arts of the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, graduating in 1970. From the mid-1970s onward, he developed a distinctive visual language that combined geometric abstraction, the discipline of Constructivism, and subtle references to landscape and still life. In 1981 he moved to the United States, where his work gradually expanded to incorporate autobiographical themes, memory, history, and elements of figuration. From 1990 he divided his time between New York and Warsaw, and from the early 2000s he re-established his artistic and academic career in Poland, teaching, among other institutions, at the European Academy of Arts in Warsaw. His work has been presented in numerous solo and group exhibitions in Poland and abroad and is held in the collections of major museums and galleries, including the National Museum in Warsaw, the Museum of Art in Łódź, the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, and the Brooklyn Museum in New York. In 2011 he was awarded the Gold Medal for Merit to Culture – Gloria Artis.
