Sławomir Belina, Self-Portrait with Mother, 1998
Belina as an interdisciplinary artist, photographer, performer, and creator of texts and installations. Between 1989 and 1994, he was associated with the Łódź Fabryczna group, having previously participated in Adam Rzepecki’s Private Academy of Absurd. His practice centered on photography, performance, and self-portraiture, exploring themes of corporeality, identity, sexuality, and social norms. Alongside his artistic practice, he worked in publishing and the media: he headed the culture section of Max magazine, served as editor-in-chief of Activist, and collaborated with Machina, producing photographic editorials and helping shape the visual language of Polish lifestyle magazines in the early 2000s. His work was exhibited at venues including Zachęta – National Gallery of Art, Ujazdowski Castle Centre for Contemporary Art, Galeria Biała, and Atlas Sztuki.
