Polana Institute
Founded in 2017, Polana Institute is a joint initiative of curator Justyna Wesołowska and gallerist Marika Zamojska, who have built the institution’s program around socially engaged art. The gallery represents artists such as Irini Karayannopoulou, Magdalena Karpińska, Dominika Kowynia, Hanna Krzysztofiak, Olga Micińska, Julia Platt, Patryk Różycki, Mikołaj Sobczak, and Paulina Włostowska.
Polana Institute was created as an experimental gallery format, organizing international exhibitions in non-traditional contemporary art venues, such as office spaces, the Museum of the Earth, the Geological Museum, and Keresbino Hydra in Greece.
In addition to works by the gallery’s represented artists, it has showcased pieces by Joan Jonas, Barbara Hammer, Shana Moulton, Barbara Falender, David Wojnarowicz, Maya Deren, Ryan Trecartin, and Martha Rosler.
Since 2023, the gallery’s permanent exhibition space has been located in a historic townhouse at Noakowskiego 35 Street.
Polana Institute has been recognized twice with the ING Art Foundation Award during Warsaw Gallery Weekend for solo exhibitions by Mikołaj Sobczak and Hanna Krzysztofiak. It is also a member of the New Art Dealers Alliance and co-organizer of the Hotel Warszawa Art Fair.
