Anastasia Rydlevskaya explores psychic instability, non-binary self-identification, pagan mythology, trauma, memory and individual struggles in oppressive systems, drawing on personal experience. Using a variety of artistic media, Rydlevskaya creates a cohesive artistic universe that offers a perspective that transcends binarity. Rydlevskaya explores an area related to the significance of the mask in culture. The mask is not just an object, but a rich cultural symbol that reflects universal human needs: protection, transformation, communication and concealment. Wearing a mask also has a ritual function. It often signifies a transition into another state of consciousness, an entry into the role of a supernatural being. The presence of the mask in culture is a testimony to the complexity of human identity and the ways in which it is expressed. The exhibition will present objects, photographs and films through which the artist asks questions about her identity.
