Nature is a temple

Craftica Gallery presents a solo exhibition of Zofia Sobolewska Ursic, an artist sitting at the intersection of artisanal craft, design and sculpture. Her new series of works expand the artist’s distinctive visual language, based on experiments with straw marquetry and spatial forms crafted from wood and metal. The starting point for the exhibition is the object ‘La Nature est un temple’ (Nature is a temple), a contemporary interpretation of symbolism and ornamentation, inspired by the polychrome decorations by Stanisław Wyspiański. The exhibition continues a dialogue built on contrasts and tensions – between geometry and the organic, rawness and the decorative nature, tradition and modernity. The artist extends the application of straw onto three-dimensional forms, emphasizing its sculptural and light reflecting character. The applied color scheme is toned down, with floral elements re-interpreted in new, poetic and metaphorical ways.
