Gizela Mickiewicz’s latest solo exhibition, her sixth at the Stereo, will consist of works that intertwine numerous recurring themes in her practice.

Using direct casting as her primary method, Mickiewicz captures impressions of specific places and human bodies — rock surfaces, trees, arms and fingertips — and combines them into sculptural forms, hybrids rooted in the belief that landscapes and inner lives influence each other. “I would like to give shape to the relationship between a person and space,” explains the artist, speaking about her latest works. Mickiewicz's shift toward figuration and recognizable forms has enabled her to refine the language and capture elusive, unstable, and intangible qualities. In a sense, as a counterpoint, she simultaneously expanded her artistic repertoire to include specific sculptural materials: glass, bronze, and wax.
