Szczur

This is an independent artist-run gallery based in Poznań, managed by a group of artists: Andrzej Staniek, Agnieszka Topolska, and Klara Woźniak (formerly also including Daniel Dąbrowski and Wiara Wojtaszczyk). The gallery is located in a space that also houses the studios of the artists involved in its operation—serving as a place of work, collaboration, and collective reflection on art.

It was established in May 2023 as a grassroots response to the need for a space that supports emerging artists—both in terms of exhibition opportunities and conceptual development. Since its inception, the gallery has organized over twenty exhibitions, performance events, and socially and educationally focused gatherings.

Its mission is to support unconventional voices in contemporary art and to create a platform that enables experimentation and artistic growth. What distinguishes the gallery is its interdisciplinary approach and openness to practices that go beyond classical forms of expression. It collaborates with artists who address current philosophical, social, and ecological themes.

As a space created by artists, it remains closely connected to creative processes while developing curatorial and institutional competencies. The gallery strives to professionalize its activities without losing sight of its core values: community, independence, and commitment. Its ambition is to actively contribute to the art ecosystem—by promoting artists who redefine the aesthetic and ethical boundaries of the present, initiating dialogue, and building lasting relationships within the art community.

Over the past two years, the gallery has initiated and organized 16 exhibitions, including one outside its home space, as part of an exchange with Art Industry Standard in Kraków. It has collaborated with artists such as Mateusz Sadowski, Jagna Domżalska, Bartek Buczek, Jan Baszak, Horacy Muszyński, Julia Woronowicz, Piotr Kopik, among others.
