Inner Sun

The exhibition “Inner Sun” brings together the work of Urszula Broll and Anna Sztwiertnia. The title refers to a shared interest in the inner energy of the human being – the transformative potential hidden within the body, emotions, and spirituality. IIn Broll’s work, this appears as a reflection of contemplation and intuition, revealed in the delicate structures of mandalas. At the heart of the selection presented during the exhibition are watercolours painted from the late 1960s onward, created as a result of a breakthrough and her engagement with Eastern philosophical and meditative systems, including Buddhism and Jungian psychology.

Sztwiertnia’s spatial installations, videos, and sculptural objects create environments in which contemporary rituals – drawn from sanatorium culture and New Age spirituality – are processed and reconstructed into immersive, sensory, yet also critical experiences. On one hand, the artist points to the therapeutic potential of bodily practices; on the other, she exposes the superficiality of contemporary spirituality and wellness culture.
