Identity
Leon Tarasewicz
Muzeum Wolnej Białorusi
opening at 19.09.2025Does Leon Tarasewicz have bipolar disorder? Is he a drunkard? An aggressor? Has everyone turned away from him and left him in bankruptcy?
At the center of this exhibition stands not only Tarasewicz's artistic work, but also the mechanisms of constructing and deconstructing an image. The contemporary artist, entangled in media narratives and social expectations, becomes a symbolic figure — a vessel for conflicting emotions, myths, and rumors.
Through paintings, recorded statements, notes, and new forms of installation, Identity reveals the process of fragmentation between the “private self” and the “public self.” It is an exhibition about the limits of perception — about how easily we reduce a person to a label, and how difficult it then becomes to see anything more in them.
