MEETINGS: Fibre and Basketry Walk: Wild Fibres around Ujazdowski Park
Start: Aleje Ujazdowskie 16
This textile and basketry walk through the area surrounding Ujazdowski Park will offer a collective exploration of the relationships between the urban landscape, vegetation, and making practices. We will examine wild-growing plants with potential uses in textiles and basketry, learning to identify them and observing how their structure and growing conditions affect the properties of the resulting material.
Combining elements of ethnobotany, ecology, and artistic practice, the event will encourage attentive engagement with the surrounding environment and reflection on local resources. During the practical part, participants will learn basic methods of extracting and twisting plant fibers and will make their own “wild cords.”
The walk will provide an opportunity to see the nearby landscape as a source of material, knowledge, and artistic inspiration. It will last approximately two hours.
