Exhibition Proposal: Mustafa Boğa, I See You as the Main Character of a Story I Would Like to Tell One Day
Mustafa Boğa is an artist whose work is deeply rooted in his place of origin. Growing up in southern Turkey provides not only a geographical but, above all, an emotional foundation for his artistic practice. In his works, Boğa continuously redefines his own cultural identity. He lives and works in London, yet his practice centers around textiles— a medium closely associated with Turkish culture. Boğa embroiders scenes that form an album of both his own and others’ memories.

The artist is interested in the processes of individual and collective memory—its subjectivity, its distortions shaped by circumstance, and the passage of time. His practice is grounded in the archiving of experience through art.

The exhibition will feature a series of his most recent monochromatic embroideries, depicting fragments of childhood memories, family history, and scenes derived from old, flea-market photographs. Anonymous figures and incidental moments from black-and-white images do not acquire new identities in Mustafa Boğa’s work—the artist does not complete their stories, leaving space for the viewer’s own memory to be activated.
