Within and For Each Other

18.09.2026 - 24.10.2026The exhibition title refers to a line from Part II of Adam Mickiewicz’s "Forefathers’ Eve": “Within and For Each Other.” Rather than commenting directly on the works, it opens a space for reflecting on the interpenetration of bodies, matter, and relationships.
Jan Baszak explores moments when the body ceases to function as an autonomous entity and reveals its entanglement with its surroundings. The works begin with the observation of two young deer exchanging saliva. While this biological gesture carries no symbolic meaning in the animal world, from a human perspective it evokes intimacy, care, disgust, and the crossing of boundaries.
Saliva becomes a relational substance that unsettles distinctions between self and other, inside and outside. Baszak’s textile objects act as bodies—soft, deformable, and responsive—foregrounding processes of exchange, contact, and interdependence.
