Tree and Wind
Szydłowski
18.09.2026 - 31.10.2026In September 1996, the Szydłowski Gallery inaugurated its program with an exhibition of Koji Kamoji. Thirty years later, celebrating the anniversary of the gallery, we present the latest series titled 'Tree and Wind'. These works represent a development of the explorations expressed in drawings shown at the Foksal Gallery in 2015 during the 'Prayer to Being' exhibition. The artist wrote about them that he "wanted to return once again to the simplest ways, using just paper, brush, ink, and white."
In the 'Tree and Wind' series, this kind of abstract drawing is transformed into a composition made from raw wood, suspended at a slight but noticeable distance from the wall. The natural color of the wood against background of a light shade of gray complements the shadow cast by the object. Such an arrangement is a consistent choice to introduce air as one of the fundamental elements of the installation. The air, complementing the installation made of wooden slats, suspends it in an expression of intuition and order — united, just like a tree and wind, which become an inseparable whole.
