The exhibition presents Kobzdej’s practice as a process of continuous exploration and boundary-crossing: between figuration and abstraction, painting and object, the pictorial surface and physical space. Its title refers directly to Kobzdej’s final series, but also to what lies beyond the image — the artist’s studio, archive and biography. The exhibition offers an overview of his work, from early figurative and abstract compositions and drawings from the socialist realist period to his best-known works from the Szczeliny and Hors cadre series. In the latter, the painting ceases to be a closed, stable plane: it assumes an organic, irregular form and becomes an object situated between painting and sculpture, actively engaging with the surrounding space. The exhibition refocuses attention on Kobzdej as one of the most radical figures in Polish post-war art, whose work resists straightforward classification and remains exceptionally relevant today.
