Anti-Fascist Visual-Choreographic Project by Ania Nowak in Collaboration with Hubert Kielan at Foksal Gallery, Autumn 2026

Ania Nowak’s anti-fascist visual-choreographic project, developed in collaboration with architect Hubert Kielan and curated by Martyna Stołpiec at Foksal Gallery, reflects on the bathroom as a potential space beyond social divisions at a time when public discourse around gender, identity, social equality, and accessibility is increasingly being appropriated by the far right. Drawing on historian Dagmar Herzog’s concept of the “new fascist body,” according to which contemporary fascism mobilizes people not only through fear but also through the promise of libidinal pleasure derived from domination, cruelty, and the exclusion of others, the exhibition examines the politics of the architectures of privacy and hygiene. Combining an installation inspired by the forgotten tradition of the Polish public bathhouse with the performance Swastika Sandwich, the project reflects on a potential egalitarian space, charged with contradictory affects and desires, such as relief and shame, freedom and submission, intimacy and belonging.
