‘Hidden Stories’ will offer the audience the opportunity to learn about the sources and references to which outstanding creators of contemporary art refer. The exhibition will reach into the unknown, for years shrouded in silence and not revealed by the creators, secret stories hidden behind their works of art. As part of the project, artists will reveal hidden meanings and content, making deeper, sometimes very personal narratives available to the audience. Giving the creators a voice will allow for the extraction of what is not entirely legible, what has been pushed to the margins for years. The exhibition, emphasising the biographical context, will prioritise individual memory and experience over the codification records of institutionally formatted art history. Showing what is not obvious in the work of the presented artists will overturn stereotypes that simplify the reading of their art. Leading creators of the neo-avant-garde art scene, usually perceived through already established interpretive clichés, will reveal unknown and surprising threads of their art. A look into the genealogies of the presented works will reveal emotions hidden behind seemingly rational language, traumas reaching back to childhood unexpectedly finding explanation in an image-sound experiment, personal, intimate narratives perversely inscribed in cultural narratives, experiences developed in fictional stagings. Most of the works will be presented to the Warsaw audience for the first time, some of them have never left the artists' studios before. ‘Hidden Stories’ is a project to present and popularise art by discovering unknown or little-known areas of contemporary artistic practices that broaden the scope of knowledge about contemporary visual culture. The exhibition will include paintings, photographs, spatial objects and films.
