Agata Słowak
Fundacja Galerii Foksal
opening at 18.09.2025For this year's edition of Warsaw Gallery Weekend, we will present new works by Agata Słowak, an artist who boldly builds her iconography in opposition to the conservative reality. Her paintings are political manifestos, and her self-portraits depict a fluid identity that transgresses social taboos. The artist's work features autobiographical themes, issues of cultural anthropology, and feminism, constantly caught up in the common pornography of social media.
Słowak analyses the role of women in society, the causes of exclusion, juxtaposed with contemporary, emancipatory gestures. The artist also grapples with fundamental themes of European traditions - madness, death, and archetypes: motherhood, sisterhood, or the battle for dominance between genders. Relationships - often homoerotic - between women occupy a significant place in her work, through which she brings out the primal emotions inherent in contemporary relationships.
