The keepsake box is slightly open. In his first solo exhibition with TBA and his first in Poland, Illia Isupov defends the intimate.

Isupov paints women reading, gazing out of windows, sitting among their belongings, and drawing close to one another. Their rooms, like keepsake boxes, become refuges for hidden desires, memories, and fantasies. These are places where the outside world gives way to fairy tales, yet no one ever tells us the whole story.

He came out of Parkomuna, the squat on Kyiv’s Paris Commune Street where Ukrainian contemporary art took shape in the early 1990s. His pictures mix folk prints, comics and the absurd with quotations from art history.

Bringing together works from 2014 to 2026, the exhibition highlights key strands of Isupov’s practice, revealing his distinctive approach to image-making across different materials and forms.
