The Naturalist

The exhibition approaches Artur Żmijewski's practice as a cabinet of curiosities. At its center stands a display-table, where Żmijewski's works meet objects from his own collection and materials related to Alina Szapocznikow. This is an assembly of testimonies to liminal states, but also a collection of artifacts possessed of a strange, dark beauty. Here, aesthetics does not soften the liminal experience but makes it thinkable. The naturalist does not judge, but describes and seeks to understand.
