Study of a Flower / group exhibition

The Study of a Flower exhibition (Alicja Biała, Gina Fischli, Teresa Gierzyńska, Rikako Kawauchi, Natalia Malek, Przemysław Matecki, Claudia & Jilia Muller, Łukasz Rusznica, Zdzisław Walczak, Sylwia Zawiślak, Artur Żmijewski, Edward Dwurnik, Pola Dwurnik, Władysława Dwurnik) at the Edward Dwurnik Foundation aims to explore whether engaging narratives around the theme of flowers can still be found in art. It will present the various aspects and meanings that contemporary images of flowers and blooming plants can convey, and will attempt to discover interesting and moving representations of this ancient motif, with particular emphasis on folk tradition and its decorative nature (Władysława Dwurnik, Zdzisław Walczak, Edward Dwurnik), the ancient belief in the healing powers of plants (Alicja Biała, Sylvia Zawiślak), critiques of the decadent glamour of flowers (Przemysław Matecki, Gina Fischli, Pola Dwurnik), flowers as a visualization of human emotions (Rikako Kawauchi, Claudia & Julia Müller), and finally, the motif of transience and death (Łukasz Rusznica, Artur Źmijewski, Teresa Gierzyńska). A special feature of the exhibition will be the embroidery compositions created by Edward Dwurnik's mother, Władysława, on public display for the first time. Poetry by Natalia Malek, available in audio format throughout the exhibition space, will also be a significant element. 

The exhibition will feature guided tours, conversations with participating artists, lectures on the theme, and workshops for children and young people. 

The exhibition is co-financed by the City of Warsaw.
