"Shortlist" is an archive of photographs from the 1920s, 1930s, 1940s, and 1950s, discovered by Wojciech Puś, depicting the life of a missing woman from his family. Since, as Maria Janion writes, "the center usually tends to eliminate individuality," this woman's story can only be unraveled in the countryside, "whose culture was—and is—sensitive to the irrational, demonic, dark, and threatening." In the presented photographs, the woman who "disappeared" and was never mentioned in family conversations, emerges as a revolutionary figure in her manifestation of individuality. Based on photographs taken at the artist's great-grandmother's house in Budy Zosine, the Palace in Radziejowice, and Anna and Jarosław Iwaszkiewicz's home in Stawisko, one can piece together the story of the Missing Woman, the story of her emancipation, and the path to freedom that resonates so deeply with the demands of women, queer people, and minorities in Poland today. The person in the photographs inspired the Great-Grandmother's storyline (created by Pat Dudek) in Wojciech Puś's latest feature film, "Shortlist," which premieres in 2027. The exhibition is accompanied by a sculptural intervention by Angelika Markul, whose works also appear in the artist's film, and a soundtrack on vinyl with vocals by Pat Dudek and improvisations by Wojciech Puś.
