Mould
Instytut Fotografii Fort
19.09.2025 - 16.11.2025This is the artist’s first institutional solo exhibition in Poland. It presents two new video works, „Mould” and „Ὁδός”, both exploring themes of movement, expression, and the creative process.
„Mould” is inspired by Danuta Kwapiszewska (1922-1999) – a dancer who, after acquiring a physical disability, turned to sculpture. Mastalerz invited Adrianna Mrowiec, the first student with a disability at the Dance Theatre Department of the Academy of Theatre Arts in Bytom, to collaborate on the project. Mrowiec created a choreography based on Kwapiszewska's sculptures. The project explores the relationship between corporeality and expression.
The second video, „Ὁδός”, is a minimalist recording of the movement of machines in an industrial process – an automated choreography transforming organic matter.
The exhibition adopts an immersive spatial form: the film based on Kwapiszewska’s life and work is projected using a 35mm analog projector, positioned in the gallery space as a sculptural object; the second piece is shown digitally. The contrast between organic movement and mechanical precision highlights different facets of vitality and explores the tensions between choreography and kinematics.
