The exhibition ‘Bodies Fragments’ involves the presentation of a special part of the oeuvre of Wojciech Plewiński, one of Poland's most eminent photographers - the artistic search for the body. In addition to iconic series such as ‘Interpenetrations’, we will present never-before-shown works, including those revealing the backstage of the creative workshop.

The idea for the exhibition is the result of the artist's discoveries in his own archive. It is a review of works forgotten or never seen by the photographer himself, but reread years later, sometimes with attention directed in a different direction. The central theme is the body, captured up close, in fragments, in motion, at rest, in diverse, even experimental compositions incorporating not only the body of the photographed subjects, but also that of the artist himself.

Wojciech Plewiński has always sought his own visual language, regardless of the subject matter he takes up. He is an architect by training, hence in his photographs a love of form, structures, but also of playing with them and through them. And the body, its structure, as well as the symbolism and eroticism associated with it, are themes that have been present in his work throughout all stages of the artist's extraordinary life. As a photographer for many years associated with ‘Przekroj’, Wojciech Plewiński took some of the most famous photographs of young women, Polish artists and models of the 1950s and 1960s. The exhibition ‘Bodies Fragments’ is a proposal for a different look at the photographer's creative output in terms of his approach to the body as a subject of interest.

The exhibition will also provide an opportunity for a broader reflection on iconography concerning the body in photography. An important part of the presentation will be educational activities, which will allow us to reinterpret Plewinski's work, but also to familiarise the audience with complex themes concerning the taking up of the body motif in visual arts and culture.
